Franchising a concept before it works in your own hands only multiplies the problems. Here is the order we will follow, and why.
There is a familiar way to grow a consumer brand quickly: open one or two locations, write a manual, and start selling franchises. It can produce a lot of signage in a short time. It can also leave hundreds of owner-operators running a model that was never tested beyond its founder’s first store.
Gr3ySpace buys companies and creates companies for one purpose: to franchise them. That makes the order of operations matter. Gr3ySpace will take the slower road. Chocojava cafes and LawnPoint branches will be opened and run by our own teams first, in the core urban trade areas of our six metros. Only when a model works there, consistently and on paper, will we offer it to anyone else.
Proven is not a feeling, and it is not one good quarter. Before we franchise a format, we want to be able to answer a short list of questions from our own records:
If we cannot answer those questions from our own cafes and branches, we have no business asking someone else to stake their savings on the answers.
Prove it in our own stores before we franchise it to anyone else.
When the time comes, franchising will be run by Gr3ySpace itself rather than a separate brand. Franchised cafes and branches will carry the Chocojava and LawnPoint names, buy through the same supply chain, train to the same certification and be audited to the same standard as company units. One owner keeps one standard.
The same logic applies to financing. A franchisor that also understands the unit economics from its own locations is in a better position to lend responsibly against them. That is why Gr3ySpace plans to offer buildout, equipment and working-capital loans to qualified franchisees once the program exists.
Core urban trade areas in Dallas, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Houston, Salt Lake City and San Francisco are planned to stay company-operated. The first franchised units, when there are any, are expected in suburban and secondary trade areas around those metros and in adjacent markets where we do not plan to operate ourselves.
Chocojava and LawnPoint begin operating in 2027. Gr3ySpace is not offering franchises at this time, and nothing in this article is an offer to sell one. An offer is made only by a Franchise Disclosure Document, and only in states where Gr3ySpace is registered or exempt. Until then, the order of operations is simple: build it, run it, write it down, and prove it.
